"Culture is the behaviours that you reward and punish."
[Jocelyn Goldfein, Director of Engineering at Facebook]
We often think of culture as some intransigent larger-than-life entity that we as individuals are immersed in, yet are powerless to change. Culture operates at many levels—societal, corporate, and even within a family. At the essence of culture is the principle that what you permit, you promote. It leads me to believe that in its purest form, culture aspires to build "empathy" not division.
