“Religion is for people who're afraid of going to hell.  Spirituality is for those who've already been there.”  [Vine Deloria Jr.]

I've always equated religion with rules, dogma, and direction.  A sense of community is built through religion and the outward practice of faith.  For me, spirituality is an inward discovery without a destination, and more in line with a sense of acceptance.  Religion is the liferaft riding the rough seas, whereas spirituality is that floating piece of driftwood you latch on to when you get tossed out of the liferaft.
