"The definition of despair is the belief that tomorrow is going to be exactly like today." [Rob Bell, pastor, Mars Hill Bible Church]
People often confuse the terms depression and despair. Depression arrives when an intense "dullness" takes over and numbs our feelings, so gradually we are left in a more incapacitated state. Despair is the intellectual manifestation that there is no hope. Despair can be a frighteningly dangerous place because we allow our mind to rob us of our one antidote to despair--faith. The faith that we do have control of our lives, even though it may not feel like it at times. The faith that things may not get immediately better, but they can change, and that subtle change may be our way out.
