"When in doubt, run the tape out."

It's said that the definition of insanity is "doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting a different result." I have the mind of an addict, so this lesson is an important one for me to internalize because it's literally a matter of life and death.
Whenever I have that gnawing uncertainty before making a decision, I think it's very wise to "play the tape out" and realize that short term gain often sows the seeds of long term pain. It's also rather ironic that projecting into the future can actually keep you grounded in the present.
